A Note on the 2007 Whitetail Deer Hunting Season
2007 was the best year on record for rain and cool weather. With 20 inches above normal rainfall, there was an incredible acorn crop (which lasted all season), drinking water everywhere and more natural whitetail deer feed than ever seen before.
Due to these wonderful conditions big whitetail deer never moved until mid-December. The whitetail deer rut lasted into mid-January.
Not only has our region of Texas been unpredictable, but the entire state has had sub-par quality whitetail deer harvested.
  The
Rafter W Ranch whitetail deer helicopter survey in early September showed the quality whitetail deer we had ever seen. Our only salvation to this whitetail deer hunting season will be a tremendous amount of quality deer next season, just older and better.
